LAUGHTEMBER INTO SHOCKTOBER

I went into downtown Portland to check out Longfellow Books, as I am in the home stretch of A Confederacy of Dunces and had to do recon for this year’s personal SHOCKTOBER reading (horror and suspense, some speculative fiction allowed). It was a great little bookstore and I found what looks to be a good one on the recommended table.

Salt marsh near Bath, Maine

We went on a beautiful hike yesterday on the coast near Bath. I put the final nail in the coffin of my current walking shoes and had to go to Kohl’s for new kicks— always a good sign on vacation. I found a pair of cushy New Balance and they will serve well. I’ll never forget the pair of delaminated Rockports I left in Olvera, Spain.

We swam on a perfectly sandy beach, which we really didn’t expect, and the sun was perfectly warm. On the way back I bought a small sign from a 12 y.o. neighbor and we had a chat with his dad, a wood sculptor.

There are still Squids shirts available from this batch, teal and red for a certain ass-kicking local soccer team on a helluva run.
