FEBRUARY DEMO OF THE MONTH: SLOW TO WARM UP, LONG TIME TO SPARKLE ON
18 months of the Demo of The Month Club! I enjoy the arc of weirdness—you can’t consciously sequence something like this, the way you would an album of tunes. This tune is on the oddball end of the spectrum.
As always, thanks to Tom, Zig and Ed for supporting with subscriptions. That fundage all went toward the new album, and the encouragement into my day to day. And three of these tunes are working their way into the Squids’ set, so far.
I finished Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland last night. With each page featuring at least one loop-d-loop rollercoaster sentence so packed with humor, pop culture, history, and allusive plot information, I went slow. Vineland the place made me think of Deadwood, the hippie community near Eugene which had its own mythology and family tree, present in town proper but not fully to be understood unless you were in the know. You know, PEOPLE, not literature, no matter what the critics said of this book.
Someday, with the right man in the White House, there will be a Department of Jesus, yes and a Secretary of Jesus.… Dismantle the New Deal, reverse the effects of World War II, restore fascism at home and around the world, flee into the past, can’t you feel it, all the dangerous childish stupidity—“I don’t like the way it came out, I want it to be my way.”

The band played up and down valleys still in those days unknown except to a few real-estate visionaries, little crossroads places where one day houses'd sprawl and the rates of human affliction in all categories zoom.
