DEAD OF WINTER TO DO
I got a 3 month membership to @pipsticks sticker club for Christmas. It had this rad 23 In 23 list in it. So far I have made lemon bars. A first.
I hit seven months alcohol-free this week, and I’m reading Adrienne Van Der Valk’s book Big Sober Energy. Tons of good mental and holistic health information in this book. Recommend.
And I’ve been doing some stretching and very light weights with the help of a physical therapist to move an impinged shoulder muscle group back in the right direction. Carrying an Ampeg Reverb Rocket around for many years (now a Vox AC15, a bit lighter) plus computer work plus whatever X factors…I can no longer throw a 96 mph heater or my nasty 81 MPH confuser. But my band plays faster than other bands I’ve been in.
My main workout routine for many years has been cardio and my main ritual has been Morning Pages. Starting the day with slow meditative attention to scapular and rotator business has been a nice change. Resistance bands are not the clangin’ steel favored by mythical gym dudes with their enormous groin protuberances and steroidal stench. For one pound weights I use cans of beans. Black, garbanzo and cannellini.
Giving up my 9% IPA habit has not been that hard. Focusing energy, focusing attention, tending to anger, ungroundedness , general stuckness, and navigating overcast weather is more of a challenge. A lifetime of mild, medium, and acute depression is not a fun movie, so I don’t watch it all that much at this point.
I looked up Zip Lines near me and found this place called Go Ape that has a HUGE course and I am gonna do this in 2023.
