BACK ON THE BIKE…IN THE RECORD ROOM
It has been quite a year so far, having a new pad built, and moving about a month ago. I fully forgot how important exercise is to regulating stress and stoking good energy, so I’ve made a point of getting reacquainted with the stationery bike in the record room WHILE LISTENING TO RECORDS. Two sides of a record are approximately 35 to 45 minutes, it times out right.
The first LP to spin while I spun was the new Baseball Project, followed by Squirrel Bait’s debut, an unmatched melodic post-hardcore blast, nearly 40 years old.
Next up was the Mike Baggetta/Mike Watt/Jim Keltner record Everywhen We Go. I picked that up at the Mike Baggetta/Peter DeStefano show at The Ship thursday night. Their set was dynamic, improvised, atonal-to-noisy-to-pretty, with a handful of more structured songs in the mix. Very creative and present music-making. Mike Stover built a massive pedal steel soundscape to open the show. An inspiring night.
I am looking forward to digging into Clete after I finish The Angel Of Indian Lake by Stephen Graham Jones.
