AMAZING CONTENT

I’ve been taking a social media break.  What I was really trying to curb was the unconscious impulse to open up apps and scroll for no reason. I used the Days Since app to set a one day goal, and it was pretty disturbing how hard that was. 16 re-sets to zero over the course of 4 days.  (I excluded hopping on to post a flier for a show or an event, because those are intentional use of the platforms).  I am currently on Day 4 and thinking about pushing it out other than re-posting a blog entry or a show.

As an artist I’d really like to have a website that is a destination for people who want new music and art and “content.”  It takes a lot of effort and commitment to make that happen, but the social media environment is so changeable and so highly monitored and manipulated.  Artists who had thriving communities on Twitter saw that go down the shoot.  As Rick Wilson says “we’re slaves to the algorithm, my friends, please rate and like…”  I don’t want to be a slave to an algorithm, I want you and me to connect and if it is three of us, fine.  If it is 300, neat-o. If it’s 3 million, everyone send $50 to the Royals so they can sign a corner outfielder with power.
