HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
I spent some time in the kitchen on this New Year's Day, making black eyed peas and cabbage and cornbread (vegetarian and non-vegetarian options). It was snowy and icy so it was a nice day to salt the cabbage, stir the peas and read my book.
This Slim Harpo record is so great--one of those that I picked up in New Orleans. It seems to be part of a nice reissue series (Americana Anthology) but the only other one I could find was one by Mojo Buford...I went ahead and ordered a copy of that, too.
I hope folks can forgive this fanboy/fangirl selfie of us in front of Alex Chilton's pad on Esplanade, where he lived when he moved to New Orleans in 1982. The cottage or guest house was obscured but it was still neat to take a walk past there and see the sculptures in the yard. 28 years he lived in New Orleans until his death, staying sober, keeping it real low key.
