#FILMSTRUCK
I was super bummed to read that Filmstruck is being shut down by WarnerMedia. When I discovered the channel on Roku, I shared liberally with film buff friends because it's so cool. Definitely not commercial, and I knew it was a nerdy, too-good-to-be-true venture--but damn, Filmstruck is it, if you want to learn about world cinema and arthouse cinema and documentaries.
My first thought was that the channel could be resuscitated with grant-funding and outright philanthropic support from the mainstream film industry. Halloween VII on Hulu does not need that, but Filmstruck does. It must be a classroom tool, in film study programs, as well. Who knows.
I'd like to think it will rise again. I will really miss it. The mainstream corporate folks would be wise to include legacy art as part of their bottom line. That's how Lucas and Spielberg learned.
