EVEN MORE MUSIC I NEVER HEARD UNTIL JUST NOW, COMMUTE WEEK 2
Boubacar Traore's story is really worth reading up on, and this is a beautiful record, in the pentatonic Saharan style of Ali Farka Toure but with American blues people guesting. I especially like the harp playing on this.
This is traditional Cambodian pop and Western rock, really fun. The rock and roll is expert but not too slick, cuts through in a down-to-earth garagey way. In reading up on this band I was sad to learn that the wonderful singer died in an accident in March of this year.

Carlton Melton makes psychedelic space rock with some cinematic atmosphere to it--instrumental, driving, a little bit spooky. I liked it.
I was reminded this weekend of my buddy Nic introducing himself to me at random after a show in Eugene to ask me if I knew who the Pagans were because his band was doing a Pagans tribute (I think). I had passing familiarity with Cleveland punk rock through Pere Ubu but had not heard The Pagans. This 34-minute comp is fun, and includes a few of their songs.
